Bill Would Disclose Noem’s Security Costs for Trump Travel | South Dakota News

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A House bill endorsed by both parties seeks to disclose the security costs for Gov. Kristi Noem’s travel on behalf of former President Donald Trump’s campaign last year.

Requests for the information by The Associated Press and other media outlets have been rejected with officials citing security concerns.

Republican Rep. Taffy Howard says the proposed legislation would not only require future costs to be disclosed, but would be applied retroactively to Noem’s security costs during her travel across the country on behalf of Trump and other Republicans.

Howard says the governor’s office has told her the Trump campaign covered Noem’s travel costs, but officials would not disclose the cost of security provided by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

“This should be disclosed to every citizen,” Howard told the Argus Leader Tuesday. “We’ve asked several times and keep getting stonewalled. Taxpayers have a right to know. This governor wants to be the most transparent administration, and this bill is all about transparency.”

Noem’s deputy general counsel, Katie Hruska, has said she can’t provide the cost of Noem’s security detail, citing a law that says “public safety information that would create a substantial likelihood of endangering public safety or property, if disclosed” can’t be shared.

Biden traveling to Philadelphia, Trump campaign members behind rally

After taking selfies with masked supporters outside the group’s South Philadelphia headquarters, Biden and his wife Jill Biden stood along a conveyor belt in the parking lot, helping pack food for those in need. As disco played over loudspeakers, Biden, wearing a face mask, his aviators, and a green Philabundance hat, placed canned goods, two at a time, into food boxes. Jill Biden added packages of rice.

FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) – Shawn Laurie – aka The Veteran Guy – along with other Trump supporters gathered at the Florence Center Sunday morning and headed to the Capitol in Columbia.

Laurie said the event is called the Drive4America and the purpose of this rally is to raise awareness that he and others are being censored from popular social media pages because they support President Trump.

“We don’t think it’s fair, because if you’re going to let one group of people have their opinion then everybody should have their opinion and not just one group,” Laurie said. “So, our point is we want to show people that we’re here, we’re tired…we’re tired of being silenced and it’s all about love, peace, and unity and it’s not about hate.”

Steven Lowery is one of the Drive4America speakers and he traveled from Milledgeville, GA. He says the DC Capitol riot has no comparison to what the group is doing today.

“This is non-violent. There will be no violence. We will not tolerate it. This is not what this is about,” Lowery said. “It’s time to start condemning the violence and move on and bring this country back together, and for everybody to stop being red or blue and it’s time to be red, white, and blue again.”

Shawn Laurie agrees it is time for a change. “My message is clear. We want freedom of speech. We’re tired of being judged, that’s another thing. I’m tired of people judging me as a homophobic or a racist just because of who I support or where I stand. I’m an American patriot. I love my country and that’s it.”
